Right when you think you’ve seen every clever dog trick, a new viral clip pops up. When a pet starts acting strangely, animal lovers usually tune in for a good laugh. But on the Hansen family farm, they barely need an excavator when their dog, Sophie, decides she can handle the heavy construction work all by herself.

In a hilarious viral clip from the Hansen Family Barnyard, a dog named Sophie shows off her incredible engineering skills and love of deep digging. The video opens on a tour of what looks like a subterranean three-bedroom condo, dug entirely by Sophie. As her owner explores the massive structure, viewers can see distinct “rooms,” including a cozy spot where a lost basketball landed, and Sophie herself chilling calmly inside what can only be described as her master bedroom.

Clearly amazed by her dog’s digging habits, you can hear the owner saying: “I swear this girl is part fox. She likes to dig holes, and very big holes.” She also notes, “Basically, she has like a 3-bedroom condo. And she dug it all herself; she didn’t have help from the other dogs at all.”

While the video sparked widespread amusement, it also drew a few curious and concerned comments from viewers wondering how a human could even fit inside. The dog’s owner, Joel, who stands 6 feet 1 inch tall, showcased the structure’s scale by carefully sliding into the hole feet-first until only the top of his head was visible.

At the end of the tour, as Joel highlights her impressive setup, Sophie simply yawns and closes her eyes as if to say, “Alright, the tour is over; time to sleep!” The owner finishes the video on a lighthearted note, calling out to fellow pet parents online: “But let me know if you got a dog that digs gigantic holes and then lives in them.”

Sophie’s impressive underground dens soon raised questions about their safety, especially given how deep they seemed to go. Her owner explained that the farm’s naturally hard ground keeps the dens sturdy, and the family regularly checks her work and fills in any unstable holes. Viewers were also curious about Sophie’s digging habits, and a DNA test revealed that she’s a Livestock Guardian Dog mix with strong Great Pyrenees and Anatolian Shepherd traits. Both breeds have natural instincts to regulate their body temperature and guard their territory, which may help explain why Sophie loves digging herself a cozy underground hideout.

Touching and funny videos documenting life at Hansen Family Barnyard have quickly gone viral, showcasing the peculiar, charming behaviors of farm animals. A follow-up daytime video showed several of Sophie’s past projects, filled-in safety zones, and even the new hole she is currently working on.

Animal lovers everywhere flooded the comments to praise the hard-working pooch, marveling at her endless determination and agreeing that when it comes to home renovation, why buy an excavator when you have a talented dog like Sophie?
