Stories of Black Americans facing unfair scrutiny, harassment, or unnecessary calls to the police just for going about their day seem to pop up constantly.

A Dallas man recently found himself in the middle of a similar nightmare — and it all started with a simple walk home. Returning to his apartment complex late one night, he was confronted by a neighbor who insisted his presence and choice of clothing were “too intimidating” and supposedly “freaking everyone out.”

Over the next few days, the situation spiraled into absolute chaos involving property management, passive-aggressive encounters, group chat drama, and even threats of police action.

Racism against Black Americans is deep-seated, with historical roots stretching back to the 1600s and the trans-Atlantic trade. Centuries later, the bias and prejudice are very much alive — as constantly reflected in news reports, academic research, and everyday experiences.

A recent Gallup survey revealed that 64% of Americans believe racism against Black people remains widespread across the country. That sentiment is even stronger among non-Hispanic Black adults, with 83% expressing that anti-Black racism is quite common.
